The United States Social Security Administration announces that a number of scams are currently occurring. The SSA is always trying to keep this information up to date so that its users do not fall for these scams. With the information of the Social Security card number, these criminals can do many things, so you have to be very careful. If we do not want to fall into these scams, we must follow a series of tips that will help us to protect ourselves from scams in general.
Even so, unfortunately, it is very common to fall into the trap of these identity thieves. Thus, if they take our Social Security number, they could even sell it on the black market. The price that these numbers have is usually very low, so people have no qualms about buying them and doing all kinds of criminal activities with them. We cannot let this happen, so we must be very cautious about where we use our own Social Security card number.
As the Social Security Administration rightly points out, we have to watch out for all letters we receive related to the SSA itself. If in doubt, you can always go to a local office to help you understand the situation. Never act if you are in doubt, as you could be right and somehow lose your identity. This is why caution is so important in these cases.
What is the Social Security scam?
There are many different scams that put your SSA number at risk. In this instance, as can be seen in the Social Security tweet, the scammers threaten a suspension of the card number. Because of this threat, the user might get nervous and agree to give the data to avoid the SSA suspension. This is the mistake we should not make, as the scammers want just that.
#ScamAlert: Beware of fake letters that threaten SSN suspension. SSA will never suspend your SSN. The real @SocialSecurity toll-free number is 1-800-772-1213.

The Social Security Adminsitration itself has a web page with scam records that will benefit us to identify and avoid them. Remember never to give out your number on unknown sites. In addition to this, never say your number out loud in front of people and, of course, do not lend your Social Security card to anyone. Moreover, if you memorize the number and do not have to use the card, so much the better, as this will save you from having to carry the card all the time.
If you think you are a victim of a scam, do not hesitate to report it. It is the best way for the government to do something against Social Security fraudsters.
