The United States Social Security Administration has already sent out all benefits for August this month. Both the Supplemental Security Income and the retirement and disability benefits are in the pockets of beneficiaries. If you are a beneficiary and you don’t have it yet, you may have a problem with the Administration.
There are several different reasons why you may not have received your benefit. Most of these reasons are not the direct fault of the Social Security Administration, as there are trust funds and no delays in payments at the moment. Therefore, you need to check several items before filing a claim with the SSA.
Reasons for Social Security Delays
The schedule for Social Security payments in August is as follows:
- Day 1: SSI payment
- Day 10: Social Security benefit payment for persons born between the 1st and 10th.
- Day 17: Payment of the SSA benefit for persons born between the 11th and 20th.
- Day 24: Payment of the Social Security benefit for persons born between the 21st and 31st.
Therefore, all payments have already been made. The last of the payments is still in time to reach the bank accounts, as it may take up to 3 days to appear. If you collect by physical check, something rare these days, it could take a little longer to arrive.
Among the reasons for the delay we can find the following:
- The bank is holding the payment. This may be because your name and information do not match, so you must correct it.
- Your personal information has changed and you have not notified the Social Security Administration.
- You have not activated Direct Deposit.
- Your benefit has not yet been accepted. Remember that after you receive the Award Letter you need to take other steps.
In either case, the first thing you should do is ask your bank. Then, if your bank cannot help you, you can call your local SSA office. You can also go in person. Finally, another way to check that all your personal information is correct is to log in to your My Social Security account.
