Millions of United States citizens receive a monthly disability check from the Social Security Administration. This check is not for all Americans, as it is necessary to meet certain minimum requirements. However, if an American meets these requirements, he or she can apply for this benefit and receive it every month.
This is good news for disability citizens who currently have no other source of income. For that reason, if you are thinking about applying for this Social Security benefit you should know what the requirements are. Once you know the mandatory requirements you just have to apply for the check and start enjoying it month by month.
In addition to this you should also keep in mind that the disability pensioner’s check is not the only one Americans can apply for. This check is compatible with another Social Security Administration benefit called Supplemental Security Income. What’s more, many of the citizens who are eligible for this benefit are unaware of it and miss out on the check by not applying for it.
Disability Benefit Eligibility in May 2023
Within all of the Social Security Administration’s categories for awarding a monthly benefit, there are two main ones. The first is the age retirement benefit. The other is disability, which is the check we are talking about right now. Receiving one of these benefits every month is possible if we meet the following requirements:
- Have worked for a period of time in some job covered by Social Security.
- Have a medical condition that meets Social Security’s definition of disability.
If we meet these two conditions, the benefit can be ours if we apply for it. Still, remember that we will not automatically receive it. After we apply for this check, we must wait a little while for the Social Security Administration to fully accept it.
To find out the exact definition of disability it is best to go directly to a local office or to the SSA website. This way we will have all the information required to obtain this benefit.
When will Social Security send the next pensioner’s check?
Disability pension checks arrive on 4 different days of the month. Each of these checks is for a different group of retirees. The differentiation between these groups has nothing to do with the type of benefit they receive.
Thus, age pensioners and disability pensioners receive their checks on the same day. This is so as long as they meet the same conditions to collect the check.
In these days retirees receive their May payment:
- May 3rd. Payment for pre-1997 retirees.
- May 10th. Next payment coming to disabled citizens. This check is only for post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- May 17th. This day’s check is for post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- May 24th. Last disability payment of the month. To receive this payment you must be retired after 1997 and have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of the month.
With this calendar it is very easy to know on which day we will have our disability check available. Remember that the Social Security Administration sends the payments on these days, but in order to receive it as soon as possible it is mandatory to activate Direct Deposit.
