Although Social Security benefits only come once a month, the truth is that some retirees in the United States may get an extra check every month. This all depends on whether we qualify for a payment called Supplemental Security Income.
Only if we get this extra benefit will we be able to get two monthly Social Security checks. Retirement benefits only come once a month, with very large exceptions. So if you have a check for retirement benefits only, you will only receive one of the payments.
If you also receive Supplemental Security Income, you can get two checks in April. In any case, we have to take a close look at the requirements established to collect both payments.
On the other hand, we need to know on what days Social Security will send the April payments. This is the only way we will be able to mark in our calendar on which day of the month we will be able to have our retirement money to use it for whatever we need.
April 2024 Social Security payment schedule
As we have previously discussed, getting one or two Social Security checks in April will depend on whether we meet certain requirements. If you have both Supplemental Security Income and Social Security retirement activated, you will get both payments.
The check schedule for retirement and Supplemental Security Income in April 2024 is as follows:
- April 1st. Payment for all Supplemental Security Income recipients.
- April 3rd. Pre-1997 retirees get payment on this day.
- April 10th. To collect on this day we need to have the payment from after 1997 and the birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- April 17th. If you have a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month and have been retired since after 1997, you get your payment on this day.
- April 24th. The last payment of the month is for post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any month.
If we have both checks accepted, we can get payment on April 1st and on one of the other days, depending on the retiree group to which we belong. Remember that this calendar is useful to know the day on which the Administration sends each check.
Getting the payment directly on the same day it is sent will depend on whether we have activated Direct Deposit or not. If we have not activated it, it will take a few days for the Social Security to appear in our current account.
