In the United States, the schedule of Social Security Disability Income payments is very easy to understand. Any citizen who can look at the calendar a couple of times will know perfectly well on which day of the next few months he or she will receive the benefit. Even so, it is true that it can be confusing and complicated when you consider that there are different payment days.
Each different payment day is for a different group of beneficiaries. That is, one day a Social Security Disability Income retiree may receive a payment and another day a different retiree may receive it. A retiree may never receive two payments in the same month, with very few exceptions. Each new payment day means a new group.
In this regard, the type of benefit does not define the payday. Many Americans think that disability beneficiaries get paid on one day and age-based retirees get paid on a different day. No, these are not the elements that make up Social Security Disability Income or other benefits.
WHAT DETERMINES THE DAY OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY?
There are two main elements that determine the day on which Social Security Disability Income is paid. Likewise, these two elements are essential to know if we will receive our SSDI on August 16th or not. On the one hand we have the year of retirement and on the other hand we have the birthday of each citizen.
Thus, a retiree with a benefit prior to 1997 will be paid on a different day than the rest. Then, retirees with a Social Security Disability Income check after 1997 will receive their payment on three different days.
For clarity, let’s look at a schedule.
- Pre-1997 retirees: Social Security is paid on the 3rd of each month. This is the case, with some exceptions. When the 3rd day of the month is a holiday or weekend, the payment is made on the immediately preceding working day.
- Post-1997 retirees: Three different payment days. Each depends on the Social Security Disability Income beneficiary’s birthday.
- 1st-10th: 2nd Wednesday of the month.
- 11th-20th: Third Wednesday of the month.
- 21st-31st: Fourth Wednesday of the month.
Also, the month of birth is not important in determining the day of payment.
WHO GETS THE NEXT SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY INCOME?
Therefore, using this information, we can determine who will cash the next of the checks. Social Security Disability Income retirees who have a post-1997 check and were born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
Any other retiree who does not meet these requirements will not be eligible to receive a check on August 16th. If you have not already collected the payment, you may do so in the future, so it is a good idea to keep an eye on your bank account.
And remember that these days are the dates on which the Administration sends the payment. This does not mean that all beneficiaries will receive the check. In order to receive it on the same day it is mandatory to activate Direct Deposit.
