The Social Security disability benefit in the United States has certain requirements to be able to apply for it. The Social Security Administration announces these requirements so that everyone who wants to apply will be aware of them. If you have a disability due to your job or previous employment, you may meet all of the mandatory requirements. If you do not meet the requirements, you will not be able to collect the benefit under any circumstances. However, there may be some exceptions, but not many.

Therefore, if you do not want to have any problems or have this Social Security payment canceled, make sure you comply with all your obligations. In addition, payments are made on a monthly basis. By this, we mean that if you have already applied for this benefit but have not yet received it, it is very likely that you will begin to receive it next month. Even so, you can always check the January payment calendar to eliminate any errors.

It is strongly recommended that you do not lose sight of any of these requirements as they will give you the benefits you deserve. If you ultimately cannot get a disability pension, you can always continue to work and start getting a Social Security pension subsidy when you turn 62. Both types of benefits have their advantages and disadvantages.

Social Security disability pension requirements

There are two fundamental requirements that the Social Security Administration itself announces on its own page. These are the two requirements:

  • Have worked in jobs covered by Social Security.
  • Have a medical condition that meets Social Security’s strict definition of disability.

But within each Social Security requirement, there are several specifications. On the one hand, there is the number of years worked. As a general rule, it is mandatory to have 40 work credits. This is achieved by working 10 years. The situation is not the same for all people with disabilities. There are people who will need more time and there are others who will not need all those years. But it is certain that a minimum number of years of work is required.

On the other hand, the medical condition changes a lot from one situation to another. As with the years worked, each case is totally individual. For these two reasons, the best option is to go directly to the Social Security Administration. In any of the offices, they will be able to help you and advise you on whether you really meet the requirements.

In any case, you can also use the BEST TOOL, which is used to find out what type of Social Security benefit you may be eligible for.
