The Social Security Administration sends a monthly Supplemental Security Income check to beneficiaries in the United States. This check arrives equally to all types of beneficiaries. So it does not matter whether a user is a disability or retirement age beneficiary.
The important thing in the case of Supplemental Security Income is that the checks arrive every month. And they always arrive on the 1st of each month, with minor exceptions. This coming April we have one of these exceptions, but they will hardly happen in the rest of the months of the year. Since the 1st of April is a holiday, the payment will be sent early on the 31st of March.
That means that checks should be arriving to most beneficiaries today. While this is true, it should also be noted that the method of collection is critical in deciding whether or not we will receive payment today. However, if you think your Supplemental Security Income payment is late, you can claim it from Social Security.
How do I claim Supplemental Security Income for March 31st?
Although the payment is made on March 31st, the check is actually for April. So we shouldn’t be alarmed if we don’t have the money until next month, which starts tomorrow. However, there is a way to make sure the check reaches our pocket on the same day.
That way is by activating Direct Deposit, which will cause any Social Security payment to appear instantly in our checking account. It’s an effective, fast and secure method. But we could still run into problems, so if we don’t get the check on time you should do the following:
- Contact the bank. The first thing to do is to contact your bank to find out why your Supplemental Security Income is late. Most of the time, the bank itself will solve the problem related to the delay.
- Contact the Social Security Administration. If the bank cannot help us with our problem, then it is time to contact Social Security. We should ask an office worker what is going on with our SSI check.
In order to do both of these actions, we must first consider the possibility that our check has not yet cleared. We can check all of this information through My Social Security. If our Supplemental Security Income benefit is in process, we should wait until it is fully accepted to claim a possible delay.
The maximum SSI benefit is $914, but that does not mean that all SSI recipients receive the same amount. Each recipient receives a different check depending on his or her monthly income and resource level.
