The United States Social Security Administration is an open contact agency. This office in charge of retirement benefit payments, among other things, has several different contact methods. In this regard, any problems related to payments can be solved in several different ways. No matter if you are still a worker or already have your retirement, the Social Security Administration has its doors open to all Americans.

Since no one is perfect, sometimes there can be errors within the Social Security Administration. If you encounter any errors, regardless of the type of error, you can contact the workers directly. There are three main ways to contact SSA and each has its advantages and disadvantages.

Ways to contact Social Security

The three main ways to contact Social Security are by telephone, online or by visiting one of the local offices. All three of these methods are completely free, although some have some disadvantages over the others.

  • Contacting the SSA by telephone: By calling 1 (800) 772-1213 you can contact the Social Security Administration directly. Through the telephone conversation you will be able to solve most of your problems. The disadvantage is that sometimes there can be a long queue and you will need to wait a long time while your call is answered. The good thing is that you don’t have to leave your home.
  • Local office: Another option is to visit your local Social Security office. Here they will help you face to face with your possible problems. As with the telephone, going to a local SSA office can be a slow process. You know when you go in, but you don’t know when you leave. Usually the workers are quick to respond, but there may be cases where the speed is slower. Plus, you have to travel to the site in person.
  • Online: With My Social Security Account you can access all your paperwork, official documents and more. Getting an account is very easy and all you need is your Social Security number. The biggest advantage is that you can check everything you need at any time, plus there is no waiting time or mandatory travel.

As you can see, any of the three methods of contacting the Social Security Administration is simple and practical. If you are waiting for your retirement benefit and it has not yet arrived, try contacting your bank first and then the SSA.
