When the year 2024 begins next year, Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) beneficiaries in the United States will see new changes that will directly affect their lives. This will be especially true for disability beneficiaries who are also earning wages. But the truth is that the COLA will also affect Americans on SSDI alone.
Regardless of our situation, the COLA will increase our Social Security disability check. This increase will mean that we will have a 3.2% higher benefit starting January 2024. However, it will also directly affect other types of payments as well. It is not only disability retirees who may see the COLA increase in the coming year.
Likewise, Supplemental Security Income payments, another benefit that users with disabilities in the United States can claim, will increase in 2024. One of the great advantages the COLA offers each year is precisely the opportunity to get a little extra money. At the end of the day, it is the only way for pensioners to cope with inflation.
THE COLA WILL INCREASE DISABILITY BENEFITS (SSDI)
Disability checks starting next year 2024 will go to 3.2% more. This means that the maximum check of $3,627 for citizens collecting SSDI will go to $3,743 per month. It does not mean that all recipients will get that check, just that the maximum will go to that amount.
For every $1,000 in Social Security benefits, beneficiaries will get an extra $32. Therefore, if a retiree collects a check for $2,000 per month, for example, starting with the January payment he or she will have a check for $2,064 per month. And with respect to this increase there is no going back, so we will not go back to the current figure, but it will stay for the whole year at $2,064.
Likewise, the Supplemental Security Income will go from a maximum of $914 to $943 per month. While this may not seem like a large increase, it will be significant for Social Security disability beneficiaries who receive this extra check.
WAGE LIMIT CHANGES FOR SSDI BENEFICIARIES
In the United States, a Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) beneficiary can work while collecting SSDI. While there are some requirements and conditions for this to be the case, many Americans in this situation are able to work.
However, there is a maximum limit on the amount of money a disability beneficiary can collect in wages to combine with SSDI. Starting next year 2024, this maximum will reach a higher figure. To be exact, a citizen with an SSDI check will be able to collect a maximum of $1,550 per month of part-time work without having to jeopardize his or her Social Security benefit.
In the case of a citizen with blindness, the payment can be up to $2,590 per month. If our salary is more than that amount we will have to pay back part of our disability benefit and in some cases we could even lose the benefit.
