Each month, the United States Social Security Administration sends eligible retirees a check for an individual amount. The dollars sent in each of these payments depend on a variety of factors. Because of this, each citizen will receive a different check and, ultimately, a different benefit.
In addition to each disability retiree having a different check, it is also true that there are other types of retirees who may have a different benefit. These other Social Security retirees may be retired due to age, after working a certain amount of time, or due to widowhood or other reasons. In short, there are many types of checks sent by the Administration each month, and each category may receive one of these payments.
Considering that the payment schedule is shared by both disability beneficiaries and other retirees, the striking thing about this is that an American can only get one of all the checks. In total, there are four different retirement payment days, so we might think we could get more than one payment. However, this is not the case because we can only receive one pension payment per month.
Why can’t I get more than one disability payment per month?
The reason is very simple, and it is that the Administration sends only one retirement check per month to each beneficiary. This is always the case, with very few exceptions. It may happen that there has been an exception in previous months, and because of that irregularity, the Administration sends an extra check in a month. However, this is not common; the usual practice is to send only one check per retiree.
Similarly, we cannot collect one payment for disability and another payment for retirement due to age, widowhood, or any other reason. Even though they are different categories, they are really the same benefit. So, since retirement for age or disability is the same, it is impossible to get both checks because you would be getting the same duplicate benefit.
So the answer to the question of whether we can collect more than one disability payment per month is no, at least in the Social Security arena. And there are other organizations that may send out one or two different checks. But with Social Security, we can only get one retirement payment per month, regardless of the amount.
Other benefits that may be combined with Social Security
While it is true that we can only receive one Social Security retirement check per month, it is also true that this benefit can be combined with other payments. Within this category we find two of the most common payments, which are Supplemental Security Income and SNAP Food Stamps. With these two different payments we will be able to have a little extra money each month.
Both checks have their own requirements, but they are compatible with the disability benefit and with each other as well. Thus, a retiree can receive the monthly Social Security benefit, SNAP food stamps, and Supplemental Security Income. These three payments together ensure a good amount of money for their recipients, but no one guarantees that we can get them all.
And that is because we have to meet the requirements. What we can get for sure is Social Security Disability, but the other two payments depend on our income and our individual situation. We can apply to see if we get them and then start collecting the check.
