In the United States, almost every week the Social Security Administration sends out a new benefit. On the one hand, we have the Supplemental Security Income benefit. On the other hand, we have the retirement or disability benefit. The latter group also includes the blindness benefit. In short, at the beginning of the month the Social Security pays SSI and during the rest of the month it sends the common benefits.
Thus, if you have a disability or retirement benefit accepted, it is possible that Social Security will send it to you very soon. You could receive your money as soon as tomorrow. The only requirement is that you must be born between the 1st and 10th of the month. But it is not obligatory to have your birthday in September, but from the 1st to the 10th of any month.
1st Social Security payment in September
Tomorrow’s payment on September 14 is the first of all the payments that Social Security will make during the month. This is not counting SSI, of course. This first payment pertains to beneficiaries who have an SSA benefit and who have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month. If you were not born between those days, don’t worry, as you will still receive your check, albeit a little later.
SSA beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th will receive their Social Security on the third Wednesday of the month, September 21. The last group to receive the benefit in this month is those born between the 21st and 31st. For this last group, the day to receive the check is the fourth Wednesday of the month, i.e. September 28.
How to get the $4,194 benefit?
The maximum in 2022 for the Social Security benefit as an individual is $4,194. To get it you need to do three things, mainly:
- Work for 35 years. Each year worked below that threshold adds $0 to your average benefit. This is not good news. Work as many years as you can, even if it’s at a low salary.
- Have a good salary during your working years. Social Security is calculated from your salary. The better your salary, the better your benefit.
- Retire as late as possible. To get the maximum Social Security benefit, you will need to wait until age 70 to retire. Despite this, some people can apply for retirement at 62 and get a good benefit. Use an SSA calculator to find out what your benefit will be before you apply.
