Receiving a Social Security check every month in the United States is a cause for celebration for pensioners. Since the Social Security Adminsitration’s calendar always follows the same pattern, it’s easy to plan for payday every month. With the pension check in their pocket, retirees can pay bills, housing and all monthly expenses. But there are times when the same retiree might receive two checks in the same month.
It is unusual for all retirees to receive two Social Security checks in one month. It is most common for pensioners to have only one retirement check, either because of age or disability. But there are times when one more check is added to that check. There are several groups of retirees who may receive double checks because they may also be able to collect Supplemental Security Income.
SSI is a payment that has certain eligibility requirements. Thus, anyone who meets these requirements will always receive 2 Social Security checks every month. But that is not the only thing, since it is possible that in this case the retiree may receive up to 3 different checks. These are exceptional cases, but possible.
Receiving 2 Social Security checks in a month
It’s amazing how we can sometimes find ourselves with two different Social Security checks in our pockets. In these cases, there is no need to panic about this happening, as it may be normal and we may have reasons to be able to enjoy two payments from the Administration in the same month.
The reasons why a pensioner may receive 2 different Social Security checks in one month are as follows:
- Collecting SSI and retirement pension at the same time.
- Collecting SSDI and SSI at the same time.
- Having delinquent Social Security payments.
- There is an irregularity in the calendar.
If we take into account all of these details, we may have a situation where we will receive 2 different Social Security checks. Even so, we must be very careful and not plan the reception. That is, with an official calendar indicating when we will receive the payments, we can make monthly plans.
However, we cannot speculate the receipt of an extra check because there is an error in the past of our Social Security pension. In these cases we do not know when we will get that extra check. Therefore, we must plan our family and household finances with the money we actually have.
And remember that Social Security payments are always made on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesday of the month. The day of your birth determines whether you receive your benefit on one of these days.
It is also good to remember that SSA payments can take up to 3 days to show up in your bank account. To receive them immediately, you must activate Direct Deposit. It is the easiest and fastest way to get your Social Security money.
