In all United States, the Social Security Administration will be sending out new checks to various groups of pensioners during the month of March. These pensioners may receive only one check, their pension money, or up to 3 different checks.
This is because there are two separate Supplemental Security Income (SSI) check payments during the month of March 2023. A slight irregularity in the timing causes retirees to have an extra payment during the third month of the year.

Why does Social Security send two SSI payments in March 2023?

April 1 is not a working day. Since the Social Security Administration only works on weekdays, it cannot send out the check on this day. It is a Saturday, so payment of the check is made on the immediately preceding business day. This day is March 31, the last Friday of the month and the last day as well.
SSI check payments are always made on the same day. However, these irregularities mean that the payment day has to change. As this happens, we find ourselves in the situation where the SSI check arrives twice to retirees with this type of benefit. The first of the SSI checks in March is on the 1st. Social Security sends the second and last SSI check on the 31st of March.
Other months with this SSI payment irregularity
March is not the only month with double SSI payments from Social Security. There are other months when Social Security will send double checks to SSI recipients. These are all the months in 2023 with double SSI checks:
- March: 1st and 31st days.
- June: 1st and 30th.
- September: Days 1st and 29th.
- December: Days 1st and 29th (this last payment belongs to January 2024).
With this calendar in mind, we can know the days on which Social Security will send a double SSI check to disability retirees and other SSI recipients. Since the Social Security Administration announces the annual payment schedule before the beginning of the year, it is easy to know the days on which we will receive the money.
It is good to remember that these days Social Security sends out checks. This does not mean that beneficiaries will receive the money on the same day. The retirement checks could take up to 3 days to appear in the bank account if we do not have Direct Deposit activated. Social Security to send up to 3 checks in some months
In addition to March, the Social Security Administration will send new double Supplemental Security Income checks in other months of the year. This situation will be available in the following months of 2023:

- June
- September
- December
In order to receive the double payment of Supplemental Security Income it is not necessary to perform any extra procedure. Having this type of benefit accepted is sufficient. Thanks to this double SSI payment, Social Security will be able to send up to 3 checks in the same month to a retiree, as they will receive their benefit and the extra SSI cheque.
