Those Americans who are unaware of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) monthly payment may be surprised to discover that many of them can apply for this extra check. This United States benefit payment can reach households where it is not currently requested.
So we must look at the requirements for collecting each month’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment, as it can award up to $943 per month to the neediest families. Also, sometimes there are irregularities in the timing of payments that advance some of these checks. And in May we encountered one such irregularity.
Who gets the May 31st SSI payment?
The truth is that each and every Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipient can get this payment. However, it is true that not all Americans will get it unless they have Direct Deposit activated as a collection method.
The reason for the early payment of Supplemental Security Income is due to an irregularity in the calendar. This irregularity is that June 1st is a weekend. When this happens, the Administration sends the SSI payment early. And for that reason we have a double check for this benefit in May 2024.
Monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Eligibility Requirements
The monthly payment of this benefit can reach $943 per month, but not all Americans can access this figure. To apply for the monthly Supplemental Security Income payment we will need to meet two requirements:
- Be 65 years of age or older or have a disability.
- Have low resources, in addition to low monthly income.
The Social Security Administration looks at each Supplemental Security Income (SSI) application separately, so each recipient gets a different check. It is not common to qualify for the maximum payment of $943, but we can come close.
The lower our monthly income, the higher the Supplemental Security Income payment. In addition, this payment is compatible with other benefits such as Social Security or SNAP Food Stamps.
