In the coming weeks of May, the Social Security Administration will be sending out thousands of new checks to United States citizens. The government has several requirements in order to get one of these checks, so we must look to see if we are eligible to get them.
If we are eligible we simply have to wait for the Social Security Administration to send the check. If not, the payment would not arrive in the next few weeks, but should already be in our checking account. After all, the Administration has already sent two checks in May 2024.
Upcoming Social Security Checks in May 2024
United States retirees will be able to enjoy two new retirement checks on the 15th or 22nd day of May 2024. On each of these days a different group of retirees may get this benefit. However, it is also true that we may find that the retirement check has already been sent.
The requirements for each of these payments are as follows:
- May 15th. It is mandatory to have had the check since after May 1997. It is also mandatory to have a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month.
- May 22nd. Retirees with a benefit after May 1997 and a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month may collect on this day.
So by fulfilling the established requirements we will be entitled to this benefit, so we must take into account this payment schedule. Remember that if you activate Direct Deposit, the payment will arrive on the same day that the Social Security Administration sends it. If this is not the case, the payment will appear in the current account a few days later.
Can I change my Social Security collection day?
One of the biggest questions United States citizens have is whether they can change the day they get their Social Security check each month. And the answer is that this is not possible and has a very logical explanation.
The two requirements to determine on which day of the month the check will be available are the year of retirement and the day of birth. Since both elements cannot change, the day of collection cannot change either.
So the only thing left for retirees who want to change their Social Security collection date is to organize their finances around that day. If they get their payment on the last day of the month, they should keep in mind that they will not be able to count on the benefit money until then.
