It is very easy to find honey of all kinds in any market, but you have to be careful with this. There are times when honey is not pure at all and is adulterated. So we must learn to distinguish if we are really buying a good honey or if it is adulterated in some way.

There are several ways to get to know one hundred percent if the honey is pure or not, so pay attention to remove all doubts about it. With these simple tricks you will be able to find out if you have really bought a totally artisan and homemade honey or if, on the other hand, it has been reduced or adulterated by the factory.

Do not worry if you discover that the honey has been adulterated, since it is not bad for your health, but its properties are somehow reduced. Even so, honey always has a good amount of properties that are good for the body, so having it in the regular diet is something we can do, whether it is pure or a little adulterated.

The main trick to know if your honey is pure or not

There are several ways to know if your honey is pure or adulterated. However, the best way to do it is always to be guided by our own senses. If we put the jar of honey to a nearby light source we will see if the light passes through it easily or not. If you can easily see through the honey, it is very likely that it is mixed with water.

Natural honey is very dark and dense, so light cannot pass through it easily. Thus, if we take a spoonful we will see that it is not easy to fall out of it. In addition, another fundamental aspect is that when it is hot it melts very easily, while when it is cold it is denser and harder.

Regardless of the temperature, unadulterated honey always maintains a very high level of density, so this characteristic must be present in our jar to be able to affirm that it is a totally natural, unadulterated product.

Other tricks

If you are still not sure that the honey is pure, what you can do is to check the ingredients. Seeing that the only ingredient on the label is honey is a good sign. On the other hand, if preservatives, water or any other ingredients are included, we should discard the product and look for a more natural one.

Finally, another trick that usually works very well is the so-called ‘stale bread trick’. We take a piece of bread from several days ago and we put it together with the honey and we introduce everything in the microwave. If the bread has become soft it means that it has absorbed the water, which is a bad sign. If the bread is still as hard as before, we know that the honey is not adulterated with water among its ingredients.
