One of the great advantages of starting to cash a Social Security check in the United States is that the retiree can know in advance the day of cashing. The Administration announces in advance the day on which it will send each of the new checks to the beneficiaries.
Therefore, if we look to see if we are in the group of beneficiaries, we will be able to know if we will get the next payment. If not, we will have to wait a few days to get it. Or we may have already gotten it, or at least the Social Security Administration may have sent it earlier.
The best thing to do in these cases is to be aware of the payment schedule and to know which group of Social Security retirees we belong to. In total there are 4 different groups and this week only 1 of those groups will get payment. Therefore, 3 groups will not have access to this week’s check.
And this does not mean that the rest of the groups will not be paid this month, of course. The rest of the groups get paid on different days, either before or after this week. But if we don’t know this payment schedule we will have trouble organizing household finances. Do you know if you will collect Social Security this week?
WHO WILL NOT COLLECT SOCIAL SECURITY THIS WEEK?
Retirees who are outside the group of Social Security beneficiaries who are part of group 2 will not be paid this week. This group is composed of retirees with a benefit after 1997. Also, you must have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month to get this payment.
Therefore, the following retirees will not collect the next retirement payment:
- Retirees prior to 1997. If the benefit we have is prior to this year, the check arrived on the 1st of December, so we should already have it available.
- Post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month. This group will receive the benefit on December 20th.
- Post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month. Retirees in this group will receive their check on December 27th.
In short, these are the days on which we will be able to get the payment if we are not part of the group of retirees who will be paid this week. However, if we are part of group 2 of Social Security beneficiaries, the check will arrive on December 13th, that is, this week.
Remember that to get the check immediately we need to activate Direct Deposit. If we do not activate this collection method the money will not arrive in the same week of the mailing, but may arrive a little later.
The days marked on the calendar are the days on which Social Security sends payments. Whether or not we get them in those days will depend on the collection method chosen, so if we choose the fastest one we will have the money available sooner.
