Getting a Supplemental Security Income check every month is a relief for eligible United States residents. This check is designed to give the neediest United States citizens a little extra money each month.
However, there are months in which we may get up to two of these Supplemental Security Income checks due to an irregularity in the calendar. Considering that payments have been as high as $914 all of 2023 it is true that sometimes we have been able to get $1,828 in the same month from Social Security SSI alone.
And the most striking thing about this is that in December 2023 we are going to be able to get a payment of up to $914 on the 1st of December and another one with a larger amount. This second check is extra and will appear in the bank accounts of beneficiaries who activate a particular collection option.
If you are expecting to get a Supplemental Security Income check before the start of 2024 you should know that it is entirely possible. This is due to a calendar irregularity that causes the checks to arrive a few days earlier than usual. Will you be able to get two SSI checks from Social Security in December 2023?
HOW TO GET AN EXTRA SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME?
In order to collect this benefit, the first thing we must do is have the benefit accepted. Although it may seem like a no-brainer, this is the first requirement. If our Supplemental Security Income check is not accepted, we will not be able to get the extra payment at the end of December.
If our check is accepted, we could get an extra check before January 2024. There is still time to activate the appropriate collection method to get this new benefit. With Direct Deposit we will get a Supplemental Security Income check on December 29th.
This extra SSI check from Social Security will be in addition to the last payment received so far. On December 1st, the Social Security Administration sent a check with a maximum amount of $914 and that was the last check with this maximum amount.
As of the December 29th check, SSI payments will carry a maximum amount of $943. This is due to the 2024 COLA that will be in place. If your check is not the maximum don’t worry, as the increase will also be included.
Whatever your current Supplemental Security Income payment is the money you get will increase by 3.2% starting with the December 29th payment. This is because that day’s payment is actually the check for the 1st of January in advance.
