Thousands of people in the United States will be able to enjoy an extra payment from the Social Security before the end of the year. This will mean that at Christmas time they will be able to enjoy a little extra money to use for what they need.
But you have to watch out about this schedule and in relation to the requirements. Not all Americans will be able to enjoy this extra payment and not all recipients of this benefit will be able to get the money from Social Security before the end of the year.
In order to get the benefit, it is necessary to meet certain requirements, and we are not talking about the retirement benefit, but about a different one. Also, receiving the benefit does not mean that we will get it on the same day that the Social Security Administration sends it. It is also mandatory to comply with another extra requirement for this.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO GET THE EXTRA SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENT?
There are two essential requirements if we want the Social Security Administration to send us the extra Christmas check before the end of the year 2023. This extra check is part of next year’s schedule, but it will arrive earlier because of an irregularity in the schedule itself. So check if you meet the requirements.
The first of the requirements is to have the Supplemental Security Income benefit accepted. If we have this accepted, within just one week the Administration will send us one of the checks for this benefit. Whether we get it on the same day or not will depend on whether we meet the second requirement.
The other requirement is to have Direct Deposit as a collection method. This collection method is the fastest way to get Social Security payments. Both the retirement and other checks will appear immediately in our checking account if we activate this collection method.
If we do this, the January Supplemental Security Income check will arrive on December 29, 2023. This is because January 1st, the day on which the payment should arrive, is a holiday. For this reason, the Social Security Administration will advance the payment to December 29th. And if we activate Direct Deposit, the payment will appear without having to wait a single day.
If we do not have this payment method activated, we will have to wait a little while to get a check. The usual in these cases is that the payment takes about 3 days to appear. What is certain is that if we have the check from the Supplemental Security Income accepted beforehand, we will be able to get the payment as usual, whether it is in advance or not.
