In the United States, when the Social Security retirement payment schedule has some irregularities, we should take a good look at when we will have the money available in that particular month. Not knowing on which day we will have our retirement check can be a bad thing, since it forces us to organize ourselves badly with respect to the month’s economy.
Therefore, if we are expecting to get the payment and we do not belong to group 1 of Social Security retirees, we may have to wait a little longer than usual. Having your monthly check on a particular day means you meet certain requirements, but if you don’t, you will have to wait for another payday.
In total, the Social Security Administration sends out 4 different payments during the month. Each of those payments is for a particular group and one of those groups is already enjoying the money, since the payment to retirees was sent last February 2nd. This payment arrived early, something that will not happen with the rest, which will arrive a week later than usual.
Which group will get Social Security later in February?
The Social Security Administration divides retirement beneficiaries into two major groups. These two major groups are marked by the year of retirement. If we have the check prior to May 1997, the February payment should have arrived on the 2nd day of the month. This check arrived early. However, retirees after that date are divided into three different groups and, in addition, get payment a week later in this month.
The first of the payments for this group will be on February 14th. After that, the next payment will arrive on the 21st of the month and, finally, the payment on February 28th will be for the last of the retirees. These groups are divided according to birthday, so not all Americans with a check after May 1997 will get payment on the same day.
If our birthday is between the 1st and 10th, the payment will be on the 14th. The Social Security check on the 21st will be for retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month. Finally, the February 28th check will be for retirees with a birthday between the 21st and 31st of the month.
How can I get my retirement checks sooner?
Unfortunately, the day on which the Social Security Administration sends out each new check in a new month cannot be changed. In other words, if our group is on the 3rd we will always get payment on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. However, we can change the exact day on which we will get the monthly money.
The collection method can make the money available earlier or later. Thus, by activating Direct Deposit we will be able to enjoy the retirement money on the same day that the Administration sends it. Those who do not activate this collection method will have to wait a few days to get the money.
In these cases, we usually get the Social Security money up to 3 days after the day it is sent. But if we activate Direct Deposit we will not have to wait, so it is advisable to do so if our idea is to have the money in our pocket as soon as possible.
