United States Social Security beneficiaries may soon get their new benefit. This check is only for a specific group of retirees, but you could be part of it. You only need to meet two requirements. So if you meet those two requirements, the new check coming next week will be for you.
These two requirements are tied to your own personal information. On the one hand, the year in which we have applied for retirement is important. On the other hand, the birthday is also important. But the year of birth is not important, just as the month in which we were born is not important. The only important data are those two.
The Social Security Administration sends out retirement checks in two different groups. On the one hand, the payment for retirees prior to May 1997. On the other hand, the retirement check for beneficiaries after that month. Well, this second group is divided, in turn, into three different groups. And each of those groups receives its benefit on a different day depending on the birthday.
Which retirees receive the next Social Security?
There is only one week left until the Social Security Administration sends the first payment to post-May 1997 retirees. If you are in this group, you only need to meet one other requirement to receive this check. This other requirement is to have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month.
In this regard, to summarize, let’s look at the two essential requirements to collect the February 14, 2024 payment:
- Have the Social Security benefit since May 1997 or later.
- Have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month.
Meeting these two requirements is sufficient to receive this benefit payment. However, you must activate Direct Deposit in order to receive your payment as soon as possible. If you do not activate this payment method, the money will still arrive, but a few days later.
Likewise, on the 21st and 28th days, the rest of the retirees in this large group of beneficiaries after May 1997 will receive their payments. However, on each of these days, the beneficiaries must have their birthday on a specific date.
Can I change the day on which I receive my pension?
As we have already mentioned, the two fundamental elements to determine when we receive our Social Security money are the year of retirement and the birthday. As these two elements are mandatory to collect earlier or later, we cannot change the day of payment.
Thus, if you always collect on the 3rd of each month, you cannot change the day to another payday. However, this day may change slightly if it is a holiday. In that case, the Social Security Administration sends the check on the immediately preceding business day.
On the other hand, post-1997 retirees cannot change their payday either. So in this case you would receive your check on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month depending on your birthday. This is impossible to change.
The only thing we can change is the day we receive the money. Depending on the payment method we have activated, we will have the possibility of receiving the payment on the same day or a few days later.
