If you have a disability benefit in the United States you get a new Social Security check each month. This check arrives on one day of the month or another depending on several factors. And soon the Administration will send the last of the checks to retirees in March.
Therefore, in order to get this payment it is mandatory to meet certain requirements. This does not mean that we can only collect the check during the month if we meet these requirements. It is important to understand that there are a total of four days on which the Administration pays the Disability checks.
If we are not in the group that gets the next payment, we may be in a different group. Each group has its own requirements and, therefore, each group gets its payment on a different day.
Whatever our case is, on March 27th we should have this month’s check. And that is because March 27, 2024 is the last day Social Security sends out a check for Disability or other types of retirement.
Which group of Disability retirees gets the new check?
The next Social Security Disability payment will be March 27, as mentioned above. To receive this check, two requirements must be met. And there is no way to get this payment if we do not meet both requirements.
The first requirement is to have the benefit since 1997. The second requirement is to have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of the month. Only if we meet both of these requirements can we receive the payment on the 27th of March. This will be the last one in this month.
To make it clearer, let’s look at both requirements in an expanded form:
- To have a birthday between the 21st and 31st. It is not necessary to have a birthday in the same month in which Social Security pays. Likewise, the year of birth does not matter. Only the exact day matters.
- You must have a benefit as of May 1997. From May 1997 on, everyone who applies for retirement meets this requirement.
The type of benefit does not matter in order to get this check from Social Security. So it doesn’t matter if our benefit is for Disability or another type of retirement. Remember that the check is completely individual, so the amount does not affect the day on which we collect our retirement benefit.
