When the Social Security payment schedule for a particular month ends, different groups of United States citizens must wait to receive a new payment. The way Social Security is organized means that some Americans get a check earlier than others. In total, the government sends out payments on four different days.
Depending on which group we belong to, we will get the payment earlier or later. And in this case, we are talking about up to three different groups that will not see another check until February. While this may seem like bad news, it is not. It all depends on how we look at the situation and how we organize ourselves financially.
Every retiree receives a check each month. The exact day we receive Social Security depends on our personal information. That is why some people may not have received a check in January, and others may not receive a new payment this month. So if you are waiting for a check, you may be in the fourth group of retirees.
But if you have already received a check, the next one will be in your pocket in February. If you haven’t gotten it, Social Security will send it today because you may be in the fourth group of beneficiaries. So keep an eye on your bank account because it should be on its way.
Which retirees won’t get Social Security in January?
Retirees who are in groups 1, 2, and 3 will not receive another payment in January. These groups have very specific characteristics. Group 1 is for retirees with a pre-1997 check. So if your benefit is from before that year, you should not receive a payment in the following days of January.
Groups 2 and 3 of retirees have different characteristics. And is that these groups are those of beneficiaries after 1997, but they have one more requirement:
- Group 2. Retirees after 1997, but they must also have been born between the 1st and 10th of January.
- Group 3. In addition to having Social Security after 1997, they must have been born between the 11th and 20th month of 1997.
So none of the retirees in these three groups can get a new payment. This is so at the expense of some kind of irregular situation. It is possible that our social security payment may be delayed for reasons outside of our control. But it is common for no retiree in these groups to receive a check.
Who can get a retirement check before the end of January?
Only one group of beneficiaries can receive the new Social Security check in January. This group is the 4th group of retirees and is the last group to receive their benefit each month. To receive this check, we must meet two requirements, one of which is the same as for groups 2 and 3.
In order to receive today’s payment, i.e., January 24th, it is mandatory to have received the benefit since 1997, in addition to having a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month. This is the only way to belong to this group of beneficiaries.
It is also possible to receive a Social Security check today or in the next few days. To control this option, it is essential to choose the appropriate payment method. If we have Direct Deposit, the check will arrive immediately on the same day it is sent. If not, it will arrive a few days later.
