One of the great advantages of collecting Social Security in the United States is undoubtedly the ease with which it can be organized. And thanks to the fact that we know in advance on what day of the month we will receive the new retirement check, we will be able to have absolute control over when our monthly money will be available.
Unlike when we were working, when we could not always know the day of the month on which we would cash each check, Social Security makes this possible. During the course of each month, the Administration pays out retirement checks on 4 different days. By controlling this, we will be able to know when we will be paid. On each of these days, a different group of retirees gets their check. And to belong to one or the other group of retirees, we just have to meet certain requirements.
These requirements relate to the personal information of each American. In this sense, it is not possible to change the group of retirees, but it is possible to control what time of the month the Social Security Administration sends your check to that particular group. If we control that, we will easily control our entire economy.
Why haven’t I received my Social Security check yet?
There are several reasons why you may not have received your Social Security check. It could be that the government has not yet paid all of this month’s checks. It could be that you are one of the last retirees to be paid, so it would be impossible to get your payment yet.
It could also be for other reasons. It all depends on your situation. Let’s take a look at the possible reasons you may not have received your Social Security payment in January:
- You are in retired worker group 4. This group will receive their January payment later this week. The exact date of the payment is January 24. Retirees in this group have two characteristics: they began receiving Social Security benefits after 1997 and they have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month.
- Your personal information is incorrect. Your retirement check may be delayed because your personal information is incorrect. If your date of birth is misspelled, your address is incorrect, or there is some other error, your payment could be delayed.
- Your Social Security has not yet been accepted. If your retirement benefit is pending, you may have to wait a while for it to be accepted.
- There is a problem with your bank. It is possible that the Administration sent you the check, but the bank is holding the money. Contact your bank to find out more.
However, there are many other reasons why you may not have received your check in January. The mailing dates for this check were the 3rd, 10th, and 17th. Also, the 24th will be the last Social Security payment for the month. If you have not received your retirement check after this week, you may need to claim the payment to get it as soon as possible.
