Taxes are something very important for every society in the world and the United States is no less important. All Americans pay taxes in one way or another, since with every thing we buy we are sending to the IRS part of the money through those taxes. So whether directly or indirectly we find that taxes are a must.
And although it is quite widespread that certain groups of Americans do not have to send the annual Tax Return to the IRS, the truth is that almost all Americans have to do it. In addition, evading the sending of these documents can bring problems to the beneficiary, as well as fines of all kinds. If you are thinking that you do not have to make the Tax Return this year, it is advisable to look at which Americans have to send the documents.
This is true even for citizens who earn little money. Likewise, it could also be true even for citizens over 65 years of age. Every American is in a totally individual situation, so sending the Tax return to the IRS depends mainly on the income we have, although there are other really important factors to take into account.
Which Americans have to send a Tax return to the IRS even if they have a low income?
Most Americans over the age of 65 do not have to worry about filing a Tax Return with the IRS. Likewise, citizens with gross incomes of less than $13,850 do not usually have to file a tax return.
However, if these groups are in one of these situations, they do have to send the documentation during the Tax Season to the Internal Revenue Service:
- Have had net self-employment income of at least $400 in 2023.
- Have gotten distributions in a health savings account (Archer Medical Savings Account or Medicare Advantage MSA).
- Have debts on an IRA or any other health savings account.
- Have debts on household employees.
- Have activated the alternative minimum tax.
- Earn more than $108.28 in an ecclesiastical organization.
- Owe taxes on a recovery.
- Owe Social Security, Medicare or tip taxes not reported by your employer.
- Have advance premium tax credit payments. Also, your spouse or dependent may have obtained health insurance coverage.
- Owe Social Security, Medicare or railroad retirement taxes.
If your situation is one of these, you will need to file a Tax Return even if your annual income in 2023 was very low. However, you may not have to make any payments, but what is certain is that you must send the IRS all the documentation to avoid problems, fines and penalties.
