Throughout each month the United States Social Security Administration sends Disability beneficiaries a check with the pension money. Each different group of retirees gets this payment on a different day. But what we must also keep in mind in these cases is that we could stop collecting this check in the event that we fail to meet one of the requirements.
Within the disability benefit we find two different types. On the one hand, we have the disability benefit related to a condition of birth. On the other hand, we have a condition arising from an employment situation. In the first of these cases, it is very rare for the Administration to stop payment of the check, but the second case is very different.
And that is that a worker who collects the disability benefit could stop collecting the monthly Social Security payment. And there are several reasons why this could happen. It all depends on the individual situation of each American, but what is certain is that it can happen and, therefore, we need to have as much information as possible to be able to have a much more comfortable and stable life.
Reasons why we can lose the Disability Benefit
There are several reasons why the Social Security Administration might stop sending out the monthly Disability check. As we have already discussed, some of these reasons do not apply to SSDI recipients at birth, but to workers who have this type of benefit.
In the case of having an SSDI check we should keep in mind that:
- If we recover on a health basis, we stop collecting Social Security Disability. This can be good news and bad news at the same time. If the Administration deems that our health has improved enough to return to work, the SSDI check will stop coming into our bank account on a monthly basis. This decision is always based on official medical documents.
- If we reach the maximum retirement age, goodbye to SSDI. The moment we reach full retirement age, i.e. age 67, we will stop collecting the disability check. But there is nothing to worry about, as we will continue to collect the Social Security payment, only now for age retirement.
- If we go to prison, we will lose our disability check. During the time we are in jail we will not collect Social Security payments, so we should keep this in mind.
- If we go back to work, we lose our check. In the event that we go back to work, even if we don’t have medical documentation that says we can work, we will lose our disability check.
Ultimately, it is possible to lose the check, but we should have no problem determining whether we will collect it in the following months. If our life situation doesn’t change, the Disability payment should arrive each month on time.
And remember that Social Security SSDI payments arrive on different days depending on the characteristics of each individual. In January the payments are on the 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th of the month. Just by knowing a little bit about the payment schedule we can determine when we will get a check.
