As happens every new month of the year, the Social Security Administration has already sent the first of the retirement benefit payments to United States citizens. However, not all Americans have already received their Social Security check payment. Although the groups into which the payments are divided depend on several factors, today some citizens should already have received a check.
In order to determine if our check is late, the first thing we must do is to know the payment schedule. Once we know on which day we could cash our Social Security check, we will know if our check is late or not. The payment schedule is very easy to know and any U.S. citizen can find out, whether the Social Security payment has already been accepted or not.
So before you know the best way to claim your Social Security payment, make sure that May 10th is your payday. Even so, remember that the collection method chosen also influences the time of day we receive the money. Choosing a different collection method is not the same and can be a big change to keep in mind.
Social Security payment schedule for May 2023
First of all let’s find out on what days in May 2023 the Social Security Administration sends out retirement checks. It is important to know the schedule well so that we can then claim the payment in an efficient way:
- May 3rd. Payment for pre-1997 retirees.
- May 10th. Post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th are paid on this day.
- May 17th. This payment is for beneficiaries with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month. It is also mandatory to have retired after 1997.
- May 24th. All retirees born between the 21st and 31st with a benefit after 1997 are paid on this day.
Therefore, the beneficiaries entitled to payment on the 10th day of May are those in the second group. This group is for retirees born between the 1st and 10th of any month and who applied for retirement after 1997.
How to claim the payment?
If we are already sure that our payment is due on May 10th and we still do not have it, we can claim it from Social Security. To do this we have three options:
- By telephone: 1 (800) 772-1213.
- By going to a local office.
- By internet.
The fastest of these methods is through the Internet, since we will not need anyone to attend to us directly. However, before contacting Social Security, it is advisable to ask your bank about the situation.
It is common for the bank to withhold money from your Social Security check for various reasons. So make sure that the bank has not withheld the money before claiming our overdue payment from the government.
Still, remember also that the method of payment has a great influence on the day of collection. If we choose Direct Deposit, the money will appear automatically. But if we choose Direct Deposit, the money may take up to 3 days to appear.
