Having a new Supplemental Security Income (SSI) retirement check is possible before the end of May. The Social Security Administration will pay a second check to benefit recipients so they can have up to $943 more within the month due to a calendar irregularity.
And the truth is that we cannot change this collection day. This implies that even if it is not convenient for us to collect that extra day in May we will have to get the money anyway. However, it is possible to get the payment in the following days depending on the collection method we have activated to get the Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
How to get a second SSI in May 2024?
As we have already mentioned, the collection method is key to be able to get the extra payment of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in May. Thus, by simply activating Direct Deposit we will have enough to be able to have the payment of this benefit on the same day of the payment.
This day will be May 31st, 2024. On this day, all Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will have a check available if they activate Direct Deposit. If we do not have this collection method activated, the money will appear in the checking account in the following days.
Some recipients will get a check on June 3rd and others will have the money available a little later. The most important thing, without a doubt, is to be able to get the SSI payment, either on that same day or a little later.
SSI application requirements and maximum checks
The maximum Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit payment is $943 per month. But not all SSI recipients are eligible for this payment. The benefit payment can be as high as this maximum, but it can also be a smaller check. The average payment is around $550.
As for the requirements, there are two main conditions to be able to have this monthly Supplemental Security Income check payment. On the one hand, it is necessary to be 65 years of age or older or have a disability. On the other hand, it is mandatory to have low resources and low monthly income.
With both requirements, it is possible to collect this check, but the amount will not always be the same for everyone. The payment of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) depends on income, so the lower the income, the higher the monthly benefit.
