Each new month of the year Social Security disability beneficiaries in the United States receive a new payment of their benefit. This new check repeats the previous month’s check in amount, although once a year this money may increase due to COLA. However, we are in the middle of the year, so there will not be a new increase in current disability payments.
Although it is true that the spring of May brings a new check not only to disability users. Any other Social Security beneficiary will be able to get this May’s money if they qualify. It is important to always keep in mind that the requirements are mandatory in order to receive the monthly payment on one date or another.
Not all beneficiaries are eligible for a check on the same day. For any beneficiary who has a Social Security benefit, knowing the payment schedule is really important. For that reason, the Administration announces it well in advance. It is the best way to organize the family economy for all those who have no other source of income.
Requirements for collecting the next disability benefit check
Throughout the month of May, the Social Security Administration will send out millions of checks to different groups of retirees. Each of these groups will be able to collect on a different day. However, the next payment is for a specific group that must meet two requirements in order to get a disability check.
The two requirements to get the next Social Security payment are:
- Have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- You must have applied for retirement after 1997.
Although the year of retirement does not usually influence the day of payment, it is true that pre-1997 retirees receive checks on a different day. Therefore, we can speak of disability retirement as having two large groups that are then divided. Although only the second of these groups, that of retirees after 1997, has such a division.
Other Social Security payments in May
But next day’s payment is not the only one the Social Security Administration will send out in May. In addition to this payment, there are others that the Administration will send depending on certain requirements. And they are not only payments for age or disability retirees, but for other reasons.
- SSI payment: 1st of May. This was the first of the May mailings of Social Security checks. If you still don’t have it as of today, you should claim the payment.
- Pre-1997 retirees: This group receives the money on the 3rd of each month, barring exceptions. Since there are no calendar exceptions in May, the payment should have reached both users with disabilities and Social Security age retirement beneficiaries.
- Post-1997 retirees: In addition to the upcoming May 10th payment for disability beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th there are other payments. The other two groups within these retirees will receive the money on the 17th and 24th. For the first of these payments it is mandatory to have been born between the 11th and 20th of the month. The last of these groups will receive the money if the disabled user was born between the 21st and 31st of the month.
Thanks to these indications, any American person who receives a monthly check can know on which day the citizen will receive it. The Administration will send these checks, but this does not mean that the retiree will receive it instantly.
In order to cash the check immediately, it is mandatory to activate Direct Deposit. This is the fastest and most efficient method of cashing. If we do not choose this cashing method we will have to wait up to 3 days, which is the time it usually takes for the money to reach the bank.
