The schedule of Social Security Disability benefit payments is set for people in the United States. Thanks to this calendar, it is possible to know well in advance the exact day on which we will be able to receive the new disability benefit. Each month we will be able to have the amount previously allocated.
Regardless of the amount of money we will receive each month, the Social Security check will arrive on the same days. In order to determine the day of receipt, the most important thing is actually the date of birth. Aside from that, the year of retirement is also critical if we are looking to know definitively when we will receive our benefit.
If we think that our disability benefit is due on May 3rd, the check should already arrive if we meet the requirements. If we do not have all the requirements fulfilled, the check could arrive soon. Even so, we can still claim the payment so that we can receive it even if it is a little later than usual.
Who receives this Social Security payment?
To begin with, we should be clear that May 3rd is actually our disability payment day. The best way to do this is to confirm it by checking all of our information. In order to receive this week’s payment, we must keep in mind that our retirement must be prior to 1997.
And it does not matter if the benefit is disability or age retirement. The only important thing is that we have a previously accepted benefit. So if your retirement is prior to 1997, the Social Security check will always arrive first of all groups. In the case of the month of May, the day is the 3rd and this is the usual.
However, there are months when the 3rd day is a holiday or weekend. In those cases, the payment is sent on the immediately preceding business day. Post-1997 retirees will receive their benefits on the following Wednesdays of the month.
How do I claim my May 3rd disability payment?
Once we have confirmed that we have access to the May 3rd payment we can check several items. Choosing the right collection method is critical to avoid all kinds of collection delays.
So activate Direct Deposit if you want to have each of the monthly checks on the same day that the Administration sends it. If you do not activate this collection method, you will have to wait up to 3 days, which is the average time to receive disability or age retirement benefits.
To claim the payments not received we have two options:
- Talk to the bank.
- Contact Social Security directly.
Disability payments reach the bank almost immediately in many cases. But sometimes the bank may withhold these payments. Therefore, we should first contact the bank if we have not received the money by the time we should have.
If our bank does not solve the problem, then we should contact Social Security. The Administration should give us an explanation as to why the disability check has not yet reached our pocket.
