Social Security disability beneficiaries in the United States who have a disability benefit may have to wait a little longer. And that’s because it’s not for another two weeks that Americans in group 4 will get a new retirement check. The rest of the beneficiaries will be able to collect a check very soon.
In fact, there are two groups of disability retirees already enjoying the new benefit sent out in February. The Social Security Administration sends checks to these retirees so they can use the money for whatever they need. And last February 2nd and February 14th they got their benefits.
However, it is true that there is a group that will have to wait longer than usual. This group gets their retirement check in the last week of February. So Social Security Disability will send the payment almost on the last day of the month. It is unusual to see this, but it is possible, as we can see.
When will the last February Disability payment arrive?
The last of the February Social Security Administration payments will be on the 28th of the month. Admittedly, this year 2024 is a leap year, so the payment day will not be the last day of February. But if it were not, the payment would have been on the last day of the month, something not very common not convenient.
Thus, retirees for Disability and other reasons of group 4 will have to wait longer than usual to get the check. In this sense, these retirees have to meet two requirements.
The first requirement is to have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month. The other requirement is to have the retirement benefit as of May 1997. Only by meeting these two requirements will we be able to access the payment on February 28, 2024.
Payments made after February 28th
After this payment, the Administration will send the Supplemental Security Income in the same week. Specifically, on the 1st of March. This means that if we are part of retiree group 4 and have SSI accepted we will have two checks in the same week.
Therefore, we could be looking at two payments almost immediately. This has been prompted by the delay of the Social Security disability payment until the last day of the month. While it may seem like a disadvantage, having both checks at the same time can be good news.
Still, if we don’t activate Direct Deposit we won’t be able to get the payments quickly. Instead, we will have to wait a few days before we can get the Disability benefit in our checking account.
