In the United States, starting to cash a Social Security check means being able to know on which day of the month we will get each of the payments. The Administration sends the payments of these benefits once a month and it is usual that the day of the mailing is repeated for Americans.
Even so, there are months in which irregularities are very present, so we can find that the payment day is apparently not the same. That is why it is so important to always take a good look at the calendar for each month. If we know the calendar of the payments we will be able to organize the economy of our home in an ideal way.
As thousands of United States citizens only have a Social Security check as their monthly income, they usually need this money for their daily life. It is not advisable not to cash a different check, but for some it is impossible to have another source of income.
Regardless of whether we only collect Social Security or not, knowing the day we might get the money is important. Even if we collect a very large or very small check it is also really important to know this so that we can perfectly control our household financial balance.
WHEN WILL I GET MY SOCIAL SECURITY IF MY BIRTHDAY IS BETWEEN THE 1ST AND 10TH?
The Social Security Administration divides retiree groups into two large groups. The first of these groups is always paid on the 3rd of each month, with some exceptions. To be part of this group, you must have applied for a retirement check before 1997.
This means that the day of the birthday does not matter for this group. So if you have been retired since before 1997, your Social Security payment should have arrived at the beginning of the month. If you have been retired since after this year, things change a little.
A retiree born between the 1st and 10th of the month with a benefit after 1997 will always receive their payment on the second Wednesday of the month. In November this means that check will arrive on the 8th of the month. So if you have Direct Deposit activated the payment should already be available.
CAN I COMBINE MY SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENT WITH SSI?
Although Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks are mailed on different days, we can get both checks each month. However, in order to cash both checks, we must meet specific requirements.
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment requires that you be 65 years of age or older or have a disability. Low monthly income is also required. This payment is compatible with both Social Security and any other benefit.
Even so, they are two totally independent payments. Although they can be combined, this does not mean that it is necessary to have one in order to receive the other. Payments for this benefit can reach a maximum of $914 in the case of SSI and $4,555 per month in the case of retirement.
