The United States Social Security Administration’s payment schedule always follows the same pattern. The government decided to do so in order to make it easier and simpler for retirees to obtain the information. Knowing perfectly the day on which a retiree receives his or her pension makes it much easier to organize everything related to family finances.
But retirement and disability benefit payments are not the only payments. In addition to pensions, the Social Security Administration also sends a different payment to help people with lower incomes. Supplemental Security Income is a special payment for the lowest income group.
Not all retirees can access SSI. In fact, Social Security provides this benefit only to retirees over age 65 who meet special conditions. This is not the only group that receives this benefit. To find out if you are eligible for Supplemental Security Income, you can check with the BEST Tool. It’s a quick way to find out whether or not Social Security might pay us this benefit. Even though the SSA sends payments on time, there may be delays. How can you apply for a Supplemental Security Income check?
Applying for late Social Security payments
There are times when your Social Security payment may be late. This is not common, as the Administration sends all checks to retirees and disabled users in a very timely manner. Even so, there may be times when some recipients do not receive their subsidy check on time. The last of the SSI checks was mailed last December 30.
This check is for January 2023, but it was mailed on December 30, 2022 because December 1 is a holiday. When that day is a holiday or weekend, Social Security pays the check earlier to avoid delays. However, delays may occur at some point in time.
In order to request any type of check due to delays we must make two payments:
- First step. We have to contact our bank. If we are collecting the subsidy through a bank account, we must talk to our bank. There are times when the bank withholds the money because of some problem with the data or with the personal information itself.
- Second step. Contact the nearest Social Security office. If our bank has not been able to give us an explanation as to why the check has been delayed, it is necessary to speak directly with the Social Security office.
These are the steps to follow if we want to apply for the delayed Social Security check. The SSA office should be able to inform us of any errors or problems with our subsidy.
