Despite what many Americans may think, not getting a Social Security payment today is not a problem. One of the great advantages of cashing a retirement check in the United States is that we can know in advance when we will get payment.
Therefore, by knowing the calendar well, we will be able to make an approximate or even an exact estimate of when we will get the money each month. Even so, there are times when we don’t get a Social Security check on a day that we should. And this can be due to a number of reasons.
If we eliminate all of those reasons we are going to get all of the payments straight away without having to wait an extra day. It’s important to keep all of this in mind so that we can eliminate payment delays altogether. No one wants to have delays when it comes to collecting retirement benefits.
Even retirees who are in the group collecting checks today may not get them. The Social Security Administration sends the payment to all retirees in the second group, but that doesn’t mean everyone gets the money today.
REASONS WHY YOU MAY NOT GET YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK TODAY
Still, we have to consider all the elements that make up Social Security checks. Not only do we have to consider whether we belong to the group of retirees who do not receive Social Security today. Apart from that, we must take into account other factors that may delay our benefit.
In this regard, we should consider the following list:
- We may not belong to the group collecting today. If our retirement is not after 1997 and our birthday is not between the 1st and 10th we will not be able to cash a check today. The payment will be made on another day of the month.
- We have not updated our information. Any changes in personal information must be updated immediately to both the bank and the Social Security Administration. Failure to do so will result in the delay or loss of the retirement check.
- We owe debts to the bank. Any debt owed to the bank can end in a hold on the Social Security retirement check. Remember to eliminate debts.
- We have not activated Direct Deposit. In order to collect the payment on the same day that the Administration sends it, it is mandatory to activate Direct Deposit. This collection method is instantaneous, so we will not have to wait a minute to get the money.
Even so, there may also be some occasional problems with Social Security payments, although this is not common. Remember that you have to meet the requirements in order to cash each check. Otherwise, the payment will arrive on another day entirely. Knowing the schedule of these payments can help us a lot to control the financial situation of our household.
