If you have a Social Security benefit and you are 67 years old, today could be the day you get the first of the retirement checks in the United States. Mind you, the check was already sent out in the previous week, so in order to get it today we need to meet certain mandatory requirements. In addition to being part of group 1 of retirees we will need to have a specific collection method.
If we do not meet both requirements we will find that we will not have access to the retirement money today. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as it may mean that the money has already arrived in the previous days or that we will get it in the next few days. While it is true that it is usual to have the money already available, this all depends on the status of each citizen’s bank.
Therefore, we must pay attention to what are the requirements to be able to get the payment of up to $4,873 in 2024. So pay attention and watch out very carefully what those mandatory requirements are and what we can do not only to get the monthly retirement payment, but to get it as soon as possible.
Who can get Social Security retirement today?
Only the first group of retirees will have access to get their retirement check today. Even so, part of this group will not get a check today, since they already received it in previous days. It may also be the case that these same retirees will get the payment in the next few days. It all depends mainly on the collection method chosen and on our bank.
The first thing to consider is whether you are a Group 1 retiree. If so, the Social Security Administration sent us our retirement check on February 2nd. To be part of this group we must have had the benefit since before 1997. There is no other requirement, so we should keep this in mind to mark the calendar day in February 2024.
If we have this in mind we must also keep in mind that the collection day will change depending on whether we have Direct Deposit activated or not. This is very easy to understand, so there is no need to worry about it. If our collection method is Direct Deposit, the money will have arrived last February 2nd. Therefore, the retirement money should already be available to us.
Now, if we do not have this collection method activated the waiting time can be up to 3 days. The problem is that since there is a weekend right after the mailing day, the waiting time can stretch further. So today or tomorrow all the checks from this group should be in their respective bank accounts.
Remember that the type of retirement makes no difference in any of this. It doesn’t matter if we have a Disability check, a retirement benefit or any other type of payment. The important thing is only to have a Social Security check accepted prior to 1997. Only then can we get the payment in these present days or have it already available to use for whatever we need.
