Although thousands of United States citizens already have their Social Security benefit at home, some others have to wait a little longer to get it. Retirement benefit money in the United States follows a certain schedule and being able to know the collection days is important for all recipients of these monthly checks.
In this sense, even though we have an established payment schedule, sometimes we can find irregularities in it. And that is what happens in the month of February, since even though some Americans have already received their payment, others are still waiting and will have to wait another week to get the money.
When we encounter irregularities in Social Security payment days there is little we can do to get the money sooner. The only thing we can do is to activate Direct Deposit if we want to get the retirement check as soon as possible. With this collection method the money arrives at the same time the Administration sends it.
Therefore, even if the payments arrive later than usual, what we should keep in mind is that without this collection method we could have problems receiving it as soon as possible. What collection method do you use to get your Social Security retirement check every month?
Group that will have to wait an extra week to receive retirement benefits
The group of retirees who will have to wait to get their Social Security check a little longer is those beneficiaries after 1997. Retirees who have a check from after that date will find that it will take the Administration in February an extra week to send out a check.
Even so, it is true that if we look strictly at the payment schedule there are no delays in this regard. However, we may find that the first of these payments does not arrive until February 14th, which is quite a bit later than other months.
Thus, if you have your post-1997 retirement benefit you will find yourself with your check on one day or another depending on your birthday. It is important to activate Direct Deposit to have the money the instant the Administration sends it.
Check the payment days and note on the calendar the day you belong to depending on the group:
- February 14th. Retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- February 21st. Beneficiaries with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- February 28th. Beneficiaries with birthdays between the 21st and the 31st of the month.
With this information we will have everything under control. Remember, however, that if you retired before 1997, this payment schedule is not for you. This is because all Social Security beneficiaries prior to that year got their February payment on the 2nd of the month.
Therefore, only retirees after that year should look at this retirement payment calendar, since the payment days are for them. That said, check the payment calendar well and see on which day you will get the money depending on your day of birth. In this regard, it should be noted that neither the year of birth nor the month matters, but only the day.
