The United States Social Security SSI monthly benefit payment is one of the systems that works best for Americans. Getting this type of check ensures that every month we have a minimum dollar amount. This is undoubtedly a great advantage in every way, as it helps Americans to have a better standard of living.
While it is true that every month we can get a retirement payment and another Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment, sometimes we encounter certain irregularities where we can cash an extra check. Even so, this extra check does not mean that we will have more money. It is important to understand this, as many people make the mistake of thinking they will have more money before the end of the year.
Getting an extra check for one month means that next month’s check comes early. And that’s what will happen in December for millions of eligible Americans. Certain citizens will be able to enjoy two different SSI checks within the month of December, with one of them being even bigger thanks to COLA 2024.
WHO CAN COLLECT 2 SSI CHECKS IN DECEMBER?
In order to get this double benefit, there are only a couple of requirements to be met. Even so, this does not guarantee that we will get three Social Security checks during the month, since we must meet another requirement. If we want to receive all three, we must also have a retirement benefit.
If we meet two requirements we will get the SSI payment twice in the month of December. These are the conditions:
- Have Supplemental Security Income (SSI) accepted in advance.
- Activate Direct Deposit as a payment method.
The Social Security Administration will send two SSI payments during the month of December due to a scheduling irregularity. These two payments will be on the 1st and 29th of the month. The 1st payment is for December, but the 29th payment is actually the January 2024 Supplemental Security Income.
If we activate Direct Deposit we will have both payments immediately in our bank account. This is the only way we can get these two checks before January 2024 arrives. This last payment will have the COLA 2024 included, so it will not have a maximum of $914 but $943.
OTHER SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS IN DECEMBER
In addition to the December SSI payments the Social Security Administration will pay four other benefits to United States retirees. The schedule for the last month of 2023 for beneficiaries is as follows:
- December 1st. Social Security payment for pre-1997 retirees. Coincides with the SSI payment, but is a different check.
- December 13. This payment is for post-1997 retirees with a birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- December 20th. This is the third payment for retirees and only post-1997 recipients with birthdays between the 11th and 20th can get it.
- December 27th. Last Social Security payment of the month and year. Only for beneficiaries with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any month and a post-1997 check.
The 27th payment will be followed by the January SSI payment on the 29th of December, as mentioned above. These will be the last payments of the year and only eligible beneficiaries will be able to get them.
