The schedule of Social Security payments is always set up from the month’s own calendar. This allows beneficiaries in the United States to know in advance on which day they will cash their retirement checks. Therefore, if we are familiar with both the calendar and Social Security’s rules for sending checks, we will be able to know exactly what day we will receive our pension.
Even so, there are some exceptions that can completely change what day we will receive our checks for the month. However, even with these exceptions we will never have problems receiving the monthly benefit. The important thing in these cases is that we keep in mind that we will receive our money every new month. Regardless of the amount and type of benefit we have, the check will reach our pocket.
And in this month of September 2023 we find that there is an irregularity in the calendar that forces the Administration to have to wait to send the second payment of the month. This irregularity is quite common, after all, but it may cause many retirees to receive the money later than usual. Will you receive your Social Security check on time?
WHY IS THE NEXT SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENT ARRIVING LATER?
Social Security checks always arrive on the 3rd day for pre-1997 retirees. However, if your benefit started after 1997, the check always arrives on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month.
And it is precisely these groups that will receive the money later than ever in September. The key to the whole issue is that the month starts on a Friday. Since September starts on a Friday, the second Wednesday of the month arrives not in the second week, but in the third week.
This will result in post-1997 retirees receiving their benefit a week later than usual. So much so, that until the 13th day we will not have the first of the payments, the one that reaches citizens with the birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month.
After that, the group of retirees with benefits after 1997 and birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month will receive their checks. This group will cash their check on the 20th day of the month. This day will be located in the fourth week of the month.
The last of the September Social Security payments will be on the 27th of the month. On this day pensioners with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month will receive their check if their pension is after 1997.
Apart from this, there is also another irregularity in the calendar, but it is related to another benefit. This other irregularity is that the October Supplemental Security Income will arrive on September 29th. Social Security will send this check earlier because October 1st is a weekend.
