One of the great advantages of starting to collect Social Security retirement in the United States is that we can know in advance the payment schedule. This official payment schedule advances the days on which the Administration will send retirement checks to different groups of American beneficiaries. And each of those groups can get payment on a different day of the month.
What is important in determining which group of retirees we belong to is the year of retirement and the day of birth. In this sense, the type of retirement is not important to know which group of retirees we belong to. In total, there are four groups and those elements mentioned above are the ones that specify which group we belong to.
And each of these four groups gets payment on a different day. This payment always arrives on the 3rd day of the month for the first group. The rest of the groups are paid on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of each month. Although it is true that the payment usually arrives in the second week for the second group, sometimes this is not the case. That is why we must be familiar with the Social Security payment schedule.
Social Security payment schedule for February
The reason why the February Social Security payment schedule has no check mailing in the second week is very simple to understand. Since the month begins on a Thursday, the second Wednesday in February does not arrive until the third week. And for that reason, in the second week of the month there is no check mailing.
Therefore, the entire second week of the month does not have any new checks from Social Security. Although it is true that it is possible to get some check, only in case the group 1 retiree does not have Direct Deposit activated. Only in this way we could get the payment on the 4th or 5th day of February.
In order to have a clearer idea, let’s see the complete retirement calendar for February and the requirements to get each payment:
- February 2nd. Check for all pre-1997 retirees.
- February 14th. Post-1997 beneficiaries with birthdays between the 1st and 10th get payment on this day.
- February 21st. Post-1997 beneficiaries with birthdays between the 11th and 20th get payment on this day.
- February 28th. Post-1997 beneficiaries with birthdays between the 21st and 31st get payment on this day.
With all this information you can mark on your calendar when you can enjoy your payment in February. Of course, without activating Direct Deposit the Social Security money will not appear automatically, but we will have to wait a few days until it is finally available.
