The Social Security Administration provides sufficient information for its beneficiaries to plan their months financially for the citizens of the United States. Each user can receive one pension check each month, although there are occasions when a retiree receives two checks in the same month.
These situations are not at all common, quite the contrary. The Social Security check may arrive twice in the same month when there is an exceptional situation. However, if you have received two checks in the same month, you will surely want to know the reasons. It is not something usual, as we have already mentioned, but it is something that could happen perfectly.
In another order of things, it is possible to receive two Social Security checks without both of them being retirement checks. That is, we can receive the retirement benefit check and the Supplemental Security Income check. What is certain is that we cannot collect both retirement and disability, for example.
Why did I receive two Social Security checks in the same month?
There are several reasons why a retiree may receive two Social Security checks in the same month. Although this is a rare thing to see, it is possible. Here are the reasons:
- The user receives both the disability benefit and SSI. As we have discussed before, this is entirely possible. But keep in mind that these are two different payments.
- The pensioner receives the age retirement benefit and SSI. As with the disability benefit, the retirement payment is also compatible with SSI.
- There is some irregularity in the schedule. Sometimes it happens that there are irregularities in the schedule that delay or advance Social Security payments.
- SSA owes you some checks. If the SSA owes you checks, you may very well find yourself in some month with a double Social Security payment. In these cases there is nothing to worry about, as this money should have been collected previously.
You should also keep in mind the Social Security payment schedule to make sure that everything is in order.
SSA Monthly Payment Schedule
On the one hand, the Supplemental Security Income payment is due on the 1st of each month, with some exceptions. The months in which the SSA does not send this payment on the 1st is when this day is a weekend or holiday. In that case, it is sent on the immediately preceding business day.
On the other hand, Social Security pension payments are distributed as follows:
- 2nd Wednesday of the month. Retirees born 1st-10th .
- 3rd Wednesday of the month. Pensioners born 11th-20th.
- 4th Wednesday of the month. Retirees born 21-31st.
And remember that it does not matter the month of birth to be in one of these groups. The important thing is always the day on which the retiree was born. This is the date used by the Social Security Administration to send the check on one of the Wednesdays of the month.
