In the United States, knowing the day on which the Social Security Administration will send the new payments is something really important. And it is thanks to knowing these days that we will find ourselves with a better organization in the field of family economy. Retirees can know in advance on which day they will collect their retirement check, so this information is vital for them.
Just by taking a look at the payment schedule we will find out on which day we will collect Social Security if we understand the system well. The Administration divides a month’s payments into 5 different days. One of those payments is Supplemental Security Income and the other four payments are the retirement benefit.
Of these five different payments, a retiree can only get two of them. It is not possible to collect two Social Security retirement benefits in one month. This is usually the case, although it is true that there are some exceptions.
In any case, next September a retiree who meets certain requirements will be able to receive two checks on the same day. One of those checks will be the Social Security retirement pension and the other will be the Supplemental Security Income benefit. Will you receive two checks on the same day in September?
WHO CAN RECEIVE TWO SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS IN SEPTEMBER?
In order to receive two separate payments from the Social Security Administration in September, you must meet several requirements. These requirements must be met in order to receive a check on the same day. It is possible that another retiree may receive two checks during the month, but not on the same day.
The important thing in this case is that we can have two direct payments from the Administration on the 1st of September. So pay attention to the requirements. If we want to receive both checks we have to meet these conditions:
- Have a retirement benefit prior to 1997.
- Receive monthly Supplemental Security Income.
- Activate Direct Deposit as a payment method.
With only these three requirements, on September 1st we could have the two different benefits in our bank account. The Social Security Administration will send out the checks on that day, so with Direct Deposit we could enjoy direct payment.
The reason this happens is quite simple. Social Security always reaches pre-1997 retirees on the 3rd day of each month, with some exceptions. When that 3rd day is a holiday or weekend, the retiree is paid on the immediately preceding business day. In September, the 3rd is Sunday, so the day of payment is the 29th, the preceding Friday.
