Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a benefit that not everyone in the United States is eligible to receive. Only a select group of beneficiaries are eligible for this Social Security check. SSI has very specific eligibility requirements that not all citizens meet.
But if you meet Social Security’s eligibility requirements for SSI, you will soon have some very good news. During the month of March we will not only have one SSI check, but two. This is due to a slight irregularity in the calendar. Even so, this irregularity is more than enough to have this extra payment that will prove very useful for millions of citizens.
Besides, just being an SSI beneficiary is more than enough to be able to receive this check. Although it must be taken into account that in order to receive it in advance, that is to say, on the last working day of March, another requirement must be met. This requirement is very easy to meet, but not all citizens are aware of it. And it will not only facilitate the payment of SSI, but also of any other Social Security benefit.
Who gets the extra SSI payment in March?
The main requirement we must meet in order to receive the March SSI check is to have an SSI benefit. As soon as we have Supplemental Security Income accepted, we can receive the March bonus check. However, if this benefit is still pending acceptance, we will not be able to receive this check.
In that case, we must wait until next month for the Social Security Administration to send us a new check. In any case, this check is not really an extra check, but is the April check sent in advance. There is a very simple reason why the Social Security Administration sends this extra check in March. Do you know what it is?
Why does Social Security send out the extra check in March?
The Social Security Administration does not send checks to beneficiaries on weekends or holidays. On the other hand, SSI check payments are always on the 1st of each month. So what happens when the 1st of the month is a weekend or holiday? Social Security’s solution is to send checks early.
Instead of waiting until the next business day, it does the opposite. That is, it pays the SSI checks on the immediately preceding business day. And that’s why we have two SSI checks in March, because April 1st is a weekend.
Can I get my April SSI in March?
Of course you can, but the opposite may be true. Even though the Social Security Administration sends out the checks on the 31st of March, not all recipients will receive it on the same day.
In this case, the method of collection becomes critical. If you do not have Direct Deposit activated, it could take up to 3 days for the money to appear in our bank account. Therefore, when receiving the money by regular bank transfer it is quite possible that the money will not arrive until April 2nd or 3rd.
So in addition to having this benefit accepted we should also have Direct Deposit activated if we want the check to arrive as soon as possible. This method is not only for receiving SSI, but also for any other payments that the Social Security Administration sends us.
