The IRS has recently announced that the 2020 stimulus check payments are coming to an end. Therefore, you must file a 2020 tax return before May 17, 2024 to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.
If you did not file a 2021 tax return, you will have extra time to file. As a matter of fact, taxpayers could claim their 2021 tax refunds and stimulus checks until April 15, 2025. But Alaska has a new payment from the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD).
NO STIMULUS CHECK? PFD PAYMENTS ARE COMING
The State of Alaska and its Department of Revenue, through the Permanent Fund Dividend, will send checks on May 16. Therefore, the next payment will be in about 8 days, just a little longer than a week.
If you have not collected your PFD payment yet, there is something you could do to know if your stimulus check like payment is due on May 16. All you have to do is check the status of your PFD payment through myPFD. Visit https://myinfo.pfd.dor.alaska.gov/home and have a look at it.
If it says “Eligible” but “Not-Paid” on May 8, 2024, you will receive this money on May 16. It will be the moment when you can enjoy $1,312. Bear in mind that only those who applied and got the approval qualify.
WHEN WILL THE PFD STIMULUS CHECKS OPEN THE APPLICATION WINDOW?
The Department of Revenue in Alaska will allow citizens to apply from January 1, 2025, through March 31, 2025. Unfortunately, it is not possible to apply for PFD payments now.
As for the requirements, you can only apply if you have lived in Alaska for the whole year (2024). What is more, you must have the intention to continue living in this State.
Do not forget that if you have claimed residency elsewhere, you are not allowed to apply for PFD stimulus checks. Being incarcerated or sentenced may also make you ineligible. Only allowable absence is permitted.
