The United States Social Security Administration may pay many different benefits to United States citizens. Among these benefits is the Disability Benefit (SSDI). This check is only for United States citizens who meet very specific requirements related to a this health condition.
Although it is true that it is not necessary to have a disability in order to receive a Social Security check, this type of benefit is very common. So many Americans think that one goes hand in hand with the other. This is not necessarily the case. In fact, not all citizens with a disability collect one of these checks and not all Social Security checks are for this situation.
Still, the fact remains that these checks are a great help for Americans in this situation. And the fact is that, at the end of the day, the objective is none other than to make life easier for citizens who are unable to work because of this disability. And in 2024 we will have requirements to be able to apply for this check, as usual.
In case you are thinking of applying for a Social Security SSDI check you will have to take a good look at the conditions. If you meet them, you will be able to apply for the payment and start collecting it very soon.
DISABILITY BENEFIT REQUIREMENTS IN 2024
As in previous years, certain conditions must be met in order to apply for a Social Security disability check. In addition to the issue of disability, there is another mandatory condition that we must take into account.
In order to be able to have one of these monthly checks it is necessary to:
- Have a disability or a medical condition that prevents you from working.
- Have worked in the last few years in jobs covered by Social Security.
Both requirements are indispensable and mandatory. Also, the medical condition must be proven by official medical documentation. Likewise, it is necessary to have worked during the last 10 years for a minimum period of time. Each situation is different, but what is certain is that it is a fundamental requirement to have worked previously.
WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY CHECK?
The maximum SSDI check is $3,627 in this year 2023. This figure will increase in the coming year 2024 thanks to the COLA. While it is true that it will not increase much, as the COLA will only be 3.2%, what is certain is that we will have a new maximum cap in the following year.
Until such time as our disability benefit is fully accepted we will not be able to know exactly what our monthly check is. While it is true that there is an official calculator so that we can have an estimate the exact figure does not appear until we start cashing the check.
Even so, remember that disability beneficiaries can also request other checks such as the Supplemental Security Income. This other check provides an extra $914 to the neediest beneficiaries.
