People with disabilities living in the United States may qualify for Social Security benefits. This benefit depends on many factors, such as the duration of the disability, whether it is not permanent, or the age of the recipient. Regardless of your reasons for getting a Social Security Disability pension, the ways you get money are the same.

There are basically two ways to get money from Social Security. Each of these methods has both advantages and disadvantages, so the final decision is individual.

There is no single best way to receive money as each person has their own credentials. Let’s look at these two different ways so you can decide what you think is the best way to claim a Social Security disability pension.

The vast majority of those who qualify for SSDI receive between $ 800 and $ 1,800 each month. In 2021, the average monthly payment for people with disabilities from Social Security was $ 1,277.

What is SSDI?

SSDI aims to provide relief to people with disabilities who can no longer work or have the same ability as they used to. The benefit is intended to replace part of the salary of the entitled employee.

How much you get will depend on the age at which you become disabled and your employment history, including the average income you had.

You can check your statement online through your Social Security account to view your earnings history. Also, how much you get from SSDI depends on how many credits you have earned in your work history. According to the Social Security Administration, workers received one credit for every $ 1,470 earned.

Remember, however, that the earnings threshold is slightly raised every year. You also won’t want to confuse SSDI with Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

While people with disabilities can apply for both benefits at the same time, SSI aims to help blind and disabled people with little or no income, and people over the age of 65.

How to register in SSDI?

There are two ways to find out if you are eligible for both SSDI and SSI. You can apply on separate SSA web portals for both SSDI and SSI.

You can also call the SSA Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, at 1-800-772-1213. However, keep in mind that the average waiting time for an application to be approved is typically three to five months.

On the positive side of collecting the Social Security disability pension is the immediacy. The same day that the Administration sends the money you can have it available.
