United States Social Security checks reach thousands of United States citizens each month. In addition, the Administration also sends Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments to certain groups of citizens. This other payment is supplemental, but really useful to be able to have a better standard of living.
Thus, there are two eligibility criteria for getting Supplemental Security Income (SSI) each month. And it is thanks to these criteria that applicants can access an extra payment of up to $943. Well now we will see a change that will increase these payments for a large group of Social Security beneficiaries.
What is the Social Security SSI change?
The change in this benefit will not come immediately; we will have to wait until September 30, 2024 to see it. But it is certain to be a very interesting change. From that point on, the Social Security Administration will increase its SSI rental subsidy policy.
More people may be eligible for Supplemental Security Income, thanks to a recent expansion in the SSI rental subsidy policy. Learn more about the change on today’s blog: https://t.co/l9o2uHBFIY pic.twitter.com/pe5o6sBC6i

This expansion is already being done in 7 different states. That is, if you live in Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, New York, Texas, Vermont or Wisconsin you already enjoy this expansion. But the rest of the states will be able to see this increase in the Supplemental Security Income rental subsidy policy.
What this change will do is to be able to grant advantages to SSI applicants. And that is that it may increase the payment for eligible recipients. It may also make some citizens who were previously ineligible for Supplemental Security Income now eligible for Supplemental Security Income.
Will the maximum SSI check increase?
This new rule will not affect the maximum SSI check. The maximum payment for this benefit will remain at $943, at least until the end of this year 2024. After that we will have the COLA, which will take effect on both Supplemental Security Income and Social Security benefits.
But it is still too early to know what the COLA will even approximate. So this change announced by Social Security will not cause a beneficiary collecting the maximum Supplemental Security Income to be able to get more money on a monthly basis.
What it will do, however, is both increase checks for many current recipients and give new SSI checks to other citizens who will become eligible. Thus, before the end of the year, many Americans who did not have this benefit will begin to receive it.
