Social Security benefits in the United States change each year. The maximum check for these benefits, as well as the minimum, is never the same when a new year begins. And in this year 2024 we have the COLA increase that will cause the checks to reach amounts never before seen. While it is true that the COLA might not add up to anything, as has happened in some past year, in this 2024 we do have an increase.
And it is thanks to that increase that we stumble upon the possibility of getting the largest check in history as of today. In some cases, the payment could reach almost $5,000 per month. This figure is not for all Social Security recipients, but it is for those who have managed to maximize their benefit check.
Regardless of the amount we have, what is certain is that we will be able to get the new check if we are eligible. Since the retirement payment schedule provides for four different days, the next check could be for us. Only a couple of conditions must be met. If we meet those two conditions, we will be able to enjoy this benefit.
Requirements to collect Social Security in a few days
In order to be able to enjoy this new Social Security benefit in a few days, two requirements must be met. And these requirements are fundamental if we want to receive the payment soon. The rest of the payments will be made on different days and for different groups, so if you do not receive the payment on this day, it is possible that you will receive it in the next few days.
Check these requirements if you want to have the payment soon:
- Have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- Have the Social Security benefit after 1997.
Fulfilling these two requirements we will be able to enjoy a check of up to $4,873 if we have the check maximized. But it is not necessary to collect that amount to get the payment. The only mandatory requirements are the two mentioned above. The rest are not conditions for cashing this check.
The day the payment is sent will be January 10th, which is the second Wednesday of the month. This will be the second Social Security retirement payment, as the first one was sent last January 3rd, 2024.
Other upcoming retirement check payments
After the January 10th payment, the Social Security Administration will send out 2 more payments before the end of the month. These two payments will be for the remaining groups, which are post-1997 retirees with birthdays after the 11th of the month.
These will be the payment days and the requirements to collect these payments:
- January 17th. Social Security payment for post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- January 24th. Retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month and a post-1997 benefit are paid on this day.
The group of retirees collecting on the 24th closes the January 2024 payment schedule. Therefore, if you have not cashed your check by then, we may have to claim the benefit from the Social Security Administration. Each retiree has an exact calendar day to cash a check, so we must know this calendar well to avoid any kind of financial disorganization.
