Retirees with a United States Social Security benefit prior to May 1997 will not get a check in the next few paydays in June. This is because this group should already have all checks collected as of today. If your benefit is prior to that date, you should check to see if you already have the payment available or not.
Each group of retirees has a different day to get the retirement benefit. If your retirement benefit is prior to this date, then the payment from the Administration was sent last June 3rd. That means that check should already be available to use for whatever you need. However, we could have problems with delays with this Social Security payment, although this is not usual.
How do you claim a late Social Security payment?
Social Security retirement checks do not arrive on any given day of the month to beneficiaries. Each of the checks leaves the Administration’s offices on specific days. And pre-May 1997 retirees get their payment on the first mailing day of the month.
In the month of June specifically we have found that the payment has been on the 3rd of the month. So all payments for this group have already been sent out. At least that is the case for the most part, as there could be occasional delays on some checks.
If this is your case and you are waiting to get payment and you don’t have it yet, you should claim check as soon as possible. To do so, the first thing you should do is request information from your bank. It is common for the bank to withhold the benefit money due to debts, lack of information or any other detail.
If your bank cannot help you, then you will have to go directly to the Social Security Administration. The workers at any of the Administration’s offices will be able to tell you what the problem is and will be able to help you in most cases. So now you know what to do if you retired before May 1997 and have not yet gotten your June 2024 payment.
