Those Americans who meet a couple of requirements will have the opportunity to get a new Social Security check in just a few hours. This payment will be the second to last of all the retirement checks the Administration will send out this month.
In order to qualify for the payment, only these two requirements must be met. There is no other extra requirement to be part of the group of eligible Americans, so we don’t have to worry about whether we are 65 years old or not. All types of retirees can collect this new check.
Requirements to get the May 15th Social Security Check
As we have already discussed, all retirees of any type can get the new May 15th Social Security payment. This means that age and disability retirees can get a check. Also, widow(er) beneficiaries or even spouses can get the benefit.
The important thing is to meet two requirements. The first requirement is to have a Social Security benefit from May 1997 onward. If we have applied for retirement payment in that month or any month thereafter, we already meet this requirement.
The second requirement is to have a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any month. This means that if our birthday is between those days, the benefit will be for us. There is no other extra requirement to be part of the eligible group for this day. But we do need to keep in mind that in order to get the payment on the same day of mailing we must activate Direct Deposit.
Remaining Social Security payments in May 2024
After the May 15th payment, the Social Security Administration sends two more checks on two different dates. And each of these checks will be for a different group of beneficiaries.
The immediate payment after May 15th will be on the 22nd of this month. This payment will be for post-May 1997 retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any month. This is the last check for retirees for the entire month.
On the last day of the month, May 31, the Administration will send out the June 1st Supplemental Security Income payment. Because June 1 will be a weekend, the Administration moves the check forward to the immediately preceding business day. All Supplemental Security Income recipients will be able to get this payment from Social Security on this day, with no exceptions.
