It is not possible to get today’s Social Security retirement payment without meeting certain requirements. In the United States, the Administration divides retirees into four different groups and each of these groups can collect their benefit at one time of the month.
Therefore, we cannot get a check on each of these mailing days. In order to collect the retirement benefit today we are going to need to meet a requirement. That requirement is marked by the year in which we applied for Social Security. So it is easy to find out if we will collect the payment today or not.
How do I collect my Social Security payment today and how much will I get?
The Social Security payment arrives today for retirees with benefits accepted before May 1997. This requirement is mandatory. If we do not meet it, we cannot get this benefit. Therefore, we must take this into account in order to organize our month’s economy.
As for the check we will get, it will be the same as in January, February and March. This payment has a 3.2% COLA included with respect to the previous year’s benefits. So it can be a maximum of $4,873 for age retirees and $3,822 for Disability retirees.
To increase check we must keep in mind that before we apply for Social Security we need to maximize our options. To do this, we must delay our retirement age, work as many years as possible and collect a good salary during that time.
Can I change my Social Security collection day?
As we have already seen, the year of retirement is key to determining when we will collect our Social Security payment each month. For that reason, changing the day of collection is impossible. So we need to know the calendar well.
To get a clear picture, let’s take a look at how the payment days are divided. In total there are four groups, but actually there are two major groups that have subdivisions. The first of these groups is that of pre-1997 retirees, who always receive their collections on the 3rd of each month.
The second of these large groups is the post-1997 beneficiaries. This group is, in turn, divided into three different groups. These groups collect benefits on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of each month. Social Security arrives earlier or later depending on one’s birthday.
